Our story

What to do

Kwame village is located approximately 15 kilometres from PNG's eastern-most mainland village East Cape in Milne Bay Province and approximately 60 kilometres east of Alotau the provincial capital of Milne Bay on the East Cape Highway. On the map below Kwame is just to the right (east) of the small village of Biwa (on East Cape map). The agricultural station at Bubuleta (on Ahioma map) is half way between Alotau and Kwame.

Kwame is approximately 200 acres of pristine coastline property owned and managed by the Pryke family for over 50 years.

The Kwame agriculture land has been developed with a vanilla plantation, market gardens, coconuts, and a forestry program on the grasslands. This is all a sustainable organic development which provides affordable healthy food and economic opportunities.

The family at Kwame Village would like to extend hospitality to people wanting to experience a genuine taste of Papua New Guinea culture and hospitality in a pristine environment.

We encourage our guests at Kwame Village to relax and unwind by the sea. We also offer activities at our guests request and to day trippers (subject to pricing and availability):

  • Traditional dancing shows

  • Swimming and snorkelling

  • Skull cave bush walk

  • Canoe paddling along coast

  • Sailing canoe ride

  • Reef fishing along the many reefs around East Cape

  • Market Tours

  • Live music entertainment

  • Traditional cooking with organically grown local food and fish

  • Crafts for sale: Pottery, mats and baskets

Minimising our footprint

Important items

Because of its remote location and to minimise its impact on the environment Kwames guesthouse amenities use gas and solar power. Rain water caught in tanks is used for drinking and cooking and water plumbed from a natural water hole is used for washing and cleaning.

We encourage guests to take all necessary precautions in relation to the presence of mosquitoes and malaria. Guests should also keep well hydrated. All drinking water comes from rain water tanks and is also boiled however bottled water is available from Alotau.
